The story behind the ribs

The distinctive ribs of the Sydney Opera House are more than a structural element, they are an essential part of the building's architectural expression.

Developed through the pioneering collaboration between architect Jørn Utzon and engineer Ove Arup, the ribs form the framework of the Opera House's soaring shells. Their precise, repeating geometry helped transform Utzon's extraordinary vision into a buildable reality, with prefabricated concrete elements assembled to create the building's iconic curved forms.

For Utzon, structure and architecture were inseparable. The ribs were designed not simply to support the shells, but to express the forces within them, allowing the engineering of the building to become part of its beauty.

The Epiphany collection draws inspiration from these often-unseen architectural details, revealing the intricate geometry beneath one of the world's most recognisable buildings and transforming it into a design to be admired and worn.
