Originally designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the Opera House is one of the most striking buildings in the world and took almost 14 years of construction before it was finally completed in 1973. It was originally estimated to cost 7 million AUD to build, but wound up costing over a 100 million AUD at the time.
The iconic roof structure is covered with more than 1 million ceramic tiles and rises up to an impressive 67 metres above sea level, which is comparable to a 22-storey building. It’s easy to understand how and why the Sydney Opera house attracts visitors from all over the globe and was declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007.
