MANNING CARTELL x John Coburn
Australian artist John Coburn's magnificent tapestry "The Curtain of The Moon", which adorned the Sydney Opera House in the late 1960's early 70's provides inspiration for our latest collection "Art of Affirmation"- R04-2022.
Coburn wanted to express his feelings about nature and the world. He wanted his Curtains to go beyond his own image and reach out to something quite fundamental. He used symbolic abstract shapes, but they were ambiguous so that people could read into them as they wished. The Curtain of the Moon's blue background represents the night sky by highlighting the phases of the shimmering moon.
